Frequently Asked Questions

What does Acupuncture feel like?

Acupuncture is not a painful treatment. You may, however, experience a dull ache or tingling feeling when the needles are inserted.

I'm scared of needles, is this treatment right for me?

The needles used in acupuncture treatments are extremely fine, unlike those used for injections and blood tests. It’s likely you will not feel them once they penetrate the skin. Any concern regarding the needles or the treatment should be raised with your therapist, who will be able to discern whether this form of treatment is right for you. If you have a needle phobia you will not be offered Acupuncture.

Who shouldn’t have Acupuncture?

Always check with your GP before beginning acupuncture treatments, and make sure to inform your practitioner of any pre-existing conditions or pregnancy. Acupuncture is not recommended to those with metal allergies or bleeding conditions.
If you give blood, please ensure you are aware of the timescales within giving blood in which you are able to have Acupuncture.

What is Traditional Acupuncture?

Traditional Chinese Acupuncture is an alternative form of medicine that involves thin needles being inserted into the body at strategic points along meridians to restore and facilitate the flow of Qi, or ‘life force’ through the body. Practitioners of traditional Chinese Acupuncture use this method to restore the free flow of Qi and restore one’s health.
