ACUPUNCTURE

Why use Medical Acupuncture

Medical Acupuncture is often prescribed by the team at Physio & Therapy UK as an additional treatment alongside other options, such as physiotherapy or sports massage. The benefits of acupuncture in painful areas are numerous; by targeting areas of the body, it can help to release natural painkillers in the body and stimulate the nerves in the skin and muscles.

What is Medical Acupuncture?

Medical Acupuncture utilizes the ancient art of applying needles into the body to reduce pain and help the recovery from injury.

Medical acupuncture places the needle at the central point of pain or tension and relieves it within the actual site through increased blood flow, hormonal changes and interference with the neural pathways. Acupuncture is used as an adjunct for many complaints, however some issues such as chronic headaches, poly myalgia and fibromyalgia have been helped with medical acupuncture in isolation.

Medical acupuncture is different to the ethos of the eastern acupuncture which works primarily on chakra lines within the body.

How does treatment work?

Medical acupuncture will be used with other treatments offered by Physio & Therapy UK, and is incredibly effective at treating back pain. By manipulating the anatomy with carefully positioned needles, medical acupuncture will relieve pain and tension and can be used all over the body. The programme will usually be made up of multiple sessions as the benefits of acupuncture treatment increase over time. We service patients in Northumberland and Newcastle areas.

Eastern & Western

Eastern Acupuncture

Working on the energy points within the body’s meridians traditional acupuncture works to eliminate blockage and in turn decrease pain within the body. Traditional acupuncture works to rebalance the qi within your body, it is believed that when your body has imbalance in the qi that this imbalance can increase risk of injury and illness

Western Acupuncture

This is widely used with physiotherapy Typically Working within one area of the body to eliminate your pain. It is used after a medical diagnosis by your physiotherapist. The western approach aims to stimulate the nervous system to the effected area and promote healing around your injury.

If trained in both methods your physiotherapist could recommend a joint approach to give you the best outcome, in order to achieve the highest success with Acupuncture a detailed past medical history is required when using the traditional approach.
